Keeping Yourself Busy During Winter

With the holiday season long over, you may feel yourself starting to slip into the winter slump.  With nothing to look forward to and no end in sight for the cold, bitter winter, it can be hard to find the motivation to drag yourself out of the house.  However, there are tons of ways you can make the most of the winter months and keep yourself busy. Here are a few.

Start A Project

If you’re feeling particularly crafty, working on a project can be a great way to pass the time and create something cool!  Depending on what you’re into, there are tons of different projects that are both fun and productive. Could your walls use a fresh new coat of paint?  Head to your local craft store and pick up a few paint samples in fun colors. Have you been wanting to get into gardening but don’t want to wait until the weather warms up?  There are several different kinds of fruits, vegetables and herbs that can be grown indoors! Finding a project that inspires you is one of the best ways to pass the time during the long winter months, so find something you’re into and go for it!

Get in Shape

It can be difficult to drag yourself out of bed and into the gym in the dead of winter, but pushing yourself to work out can actually be a big mood booster and help the winter season go by faster!  If it’s too cold for you to workout outside, head to your local gym or indoor recreational facility and break a sweat!  If the elliptical isn’t really your thing, look into signing up for group exercise classes or alternative workouts, like dancing or swimming at an indoor pool.  Other winter activities, like ice skating, skiing and snowboarding can also be great forms of exercise during the cold months, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to working out.

Make A Vision Board

It might sound corny, but making a vision board can really put things into perspective and help you keep track of your goals, both short-term and long-term.  Your vision board can include anything you want- for example, if you’re planning a big move you can use pictures of Portland townhouses you like or cool local attractions you want to check out when you get there.  You can also use fitness, financial or personal goals on your vision board, and make sure to hang it up in an area of the house that you frequently visit.  Making a vision board is a fun and creative way to keep track of the things you want to accomplish, and having a physical reminder will make you actually want to follow through with them.
